Source Notes
Marion March quotes Mildred Schuler from Ike's mom "about 3:00 AM."
Steinbrecher quotes Ruth Hale Oliver for 5:00 AM from Ike's mom, Mercury Hour 2/86.
(Various sources quotes biographer Ann Woodward Miller, "Man and Soldier" for 3:00 AM and for 3:40 AM. They are misquoting as the biography, by Francis Trevelyan Miller, copyright 1944 by Ann Woodward Miller, gives NO time of birth. The only inference is a story related by James Redmon, a retired engineer, who said, "I was living in the home of the Eisenhower family. .... I was an engineer and had an apartment upstairs, and was in from the run on the night the baby was born. .... The only available man on the place with the exception of the husband so I hustled out of my apartment and went for the physician. It was a cold night in October, the 14th."
Gleadow wrote in AA 7/52, "He was said to have born after a thunderstorm in late afternoon or early evening, recitified to 6:00 PM." In Astrological Quarterly spring/53, Gleadow wrote, "Given time of late afternoon, rectified to 5:11 PM." Doris Chase Doane, "Horoscopes of U.S. Presidents" gives 5:19 PM. AQ Winter/52 gives 5:54 PM, rectified. In August 2004, Sy Scholfield sent an e-mail advising that a copy of Eisenhower's birth certificate (without time) is posted on the web at his presidential library site: http://www.eisenhower.utexas.edu/davdwi.htm and http://www.eisenhowerbirthplace.org/pictures.htm. Sy later writes "In his book, "Eisenhower," (p. 21) Carlo D'Este claims that Dwight Eisenhower was born on the "night" of 14 October, 1890, in Denison, TX. D'Este gives no direct reference to a source but states in his footnotes that the birth was recorded in the family bible which may be the source of the information."
